Spice-doused fried chicken is the main event at South Bird Hot Chicken, but a considered drinks list, quality tunes and a diner style setup collude for a unique take on a Nashville classic.

While Nashville hot chicken is slowly spreading its influence through WA dining, South Bird Hot Chicken has taken the spiced staple into new territory, pairing it with a small bar-cum-diner aesthetic complete with a loaded back bar, local beers and a small but stirring wine list.

Touted as ‘Northbridges first dedicated Nashville Hot Chicken diner’, South Bird takes over where North Bird Wine Store left off, with a modest touch up, including diner style booth seating, polished wood details and a focus on good tunes. The menu is a brief but all-star offering. The breading is thick and so crunchy that its audible with every bite. Sandwiched between soft, warm white bread with slaw and mayo means messy faces and fingers. It’s a classic combo done very well. The mess, all part of the experience. Choose medium, spicy or ‘damn that’s spicy’ with wings, thighs, or tenders, and don’t forget the sides. House made pickles and sauces, mac and cheese, mash and gravy, buffalo cauliflower and hush puppies, all suitable sides to the chilli oil drenched and spice-dusted fried chicken.
