Perth & Surrounds

The Adnate Perth- Art Series

Walk past The Adnate – Perth’s only Art Series Hotels property – and chances are you’ll want to book your stay straight away.

The 25-storey portrait on the building’s exterior – designed by the hotel’s namesake, street artist Matt Adnate – is one of Perth’s most arresting landmarks and the largest mural in the Southern Hemisphere. The faces of the man and two women he’s depicted overlook Hay Street and the whole city with deep gazes of serenity and strength – a fairly good metaphor for the hotel itself.

Artistic and vibrant, The Adnate comes across as a place to stay with a strong sense of identity. The decor is anchored by 650 of Adnate’s prints, expertly accented with colourful posters and sculpture. Heck, even the bed runners in the rooms and suites resemble paint-spattered canvases. What’s more, the service is assured, the food has a point of view and you’re right in the heart of the city.

On level one, the BAHA Poolside Bar & Kitchen pulses with beachy Caribbean spirit, and it’s a rare day you won’t find someone making a splash in the adjoining heated outdoor pool. Then as a whole, The Adnate is like a living, breathing gallery, one that invites you to dive right in and become a part of the canvas.

What’s There

It’s difficult to resist a jewel-blue rooftop pool on a hot summer’s day, especially one that offers food and drink service direct to your sun lounger. If you prefer to get your fitness in the more traditional way, there’s also a good-sized gym featuring Peloton bikes. A floral-print-splashed meeting room can also be reserved for conferences or parties on request.

What’s Around

Seeing as you’re right in the centre of the city, big-hitter attractions like Elizabeth Quay and His Majesty’s Theatre are mere footsteps away. Locals recommend grabbing a handful of goodies and heading to nearby Kings Park for a sunset picnic, or wandering up the road a couple of blocks for ripper burgers and shakes at Short Order.

What’s Super Special

If you’re a passionate art lover, the hotel offers tours of the on-site works so you can get a better sense of Matt Adnate’s creative spirit. Or, if you simply want to soak up his most dramatic works as you empty your inbox, the colour-soaked lobby (complete with plentiful charging ports) is an excellent place to set up the laptop.

Children

Several interconnecting rooms can be configured into a two-bedroom setup that’s perfect for families. Then again, it’ll be so hard to drag the kids away from the pool that you likely won’t be spending much time in the room anyway.

Breakfast

The buffet-style spread includes all the classics like eggs, bacon and sides.

Eating and Drinking

Caribbean flavours are very well executed at BAHA Poolside Bar & Kitchen. Think classic coastal-style tacos, ceviche, jerk chicken and corn-chip bowls, with a few inspired touches throughout, such as calalloo greens in the fish stew and pumpkin-seed salsa, a Mexican staple. The rum-based cocktails are also worth the splurge. Our pick of the bunch? The Wild Bird, layered with dark rum, Campari and pineapple juice.

Things to Book

Notes

Things get fun and festive on Friday nights at BAHA, when DJs turn the party vibe right up.
