Chambré Estate Margaret River

A stay at Chambré Estate is choose-your-own-adventure territory, whether that’s using the three-hectare property as a “Down South” retreat, or a base to explore the Margaret River region.

Newly revitalised, the whitewashed brick cabins and suites sit amongst landscaped grounds. It’s central, just five minutes from Margs’s main strip by car, but the Estate feels miles away all the same. You’re bound to encounter lots of local wildlife, including kookaburras and kangaroos, and a canopy of 200-year-old marri trees casts a tranquil spell over the property. 

Co-owner Jess Dodd, an interior designer, has created rooms that mirror the tones of the South West. Think the red dirt of a country road, or the cooler ocean palette. There’s plenty of thought throughout the fit-out with well-placed lighting, quality bedding, recessed TVs, and small but well-equipped kitchenettes. The property is a work in progress and repeat visits will no doubt reveal new upgrades, like the recently added communal sauna. How’s the serenity? Very high, indeed.

  • 12 luxuriously styled suites and cabins, sleeping up to 34 guests.
  • Check-in: 3pm; Check-out: 10am.
  • The Lodge, a communal kitchen and dining area with a grand stone fireplace, can be hired for corporate retreats or group bookings. 

What’s There

The wood-fired hot tubs in Suites 1, 3 and 8 are a draw in winter, and while they’re not able to be operated in fire restriction periods, they can double as a cold plunge from mid-November to March.

What’s Around

At the western end of Andrews Way, you’ll find Yahava KoffeeWorks, the South West’s OG coffee roaster, as well as Sons of Naples and Burger Baby. Venture to the end of the driveway on foot, hang a right, and you can access the Darch Trail for hiking and cycling. Hang a left, and you’ll find the Stella Bella cellar door, where you can have a complimentary tasting if you mention WAGFG Stays.

What’s Super Special

Not that any more proof of Dodd’s creative energy is required, but Jess has created her own range of bodycare products called Ives Botanicals, exclusively for the accommodation.

Children

Chambré feels more like an adults’ retreat, so it’s perhaps not the best place for young families. Even so, there’s no restriction or age requirement, and if you are bringing the little ones, the Cabernet Cabin offers three bedrooms.

Breakfast

Zoop Zoop sourdough bagels are provided on-site, but there’s a host of brekkie options both in Margaret River or five minutes down the road in Witchcliffe.

Eating and Drinking

You’re very spoiled for choice here. Margaret River has everything from modern fine dining at de’sendent to casual Korean at Teddis Big Spoon, as well as a nationally renowned wine list with classic pub vibes at the Settlers Tavern. Head south just five minutes by car to Witchcliffe to find atmospheric Dear Darnell’s, which has fast become a local favourite.

Things to Book

In high season, restaurants, pubs and breweries book up fast. Plan accordingly.

A night of Netflix and chill? After a long day touring cellar doors or long-lunching, you may just want to grab a bottle of something from the region, a bar or two of Bahen & Co chocolate, and binge on the complimentary streaming networks.
